Shad Mayfield

Who is Shad Mayfield? Shad Mayfield was a champion of the National Rodeo Association in high school and then won enough money to qualify for his first Wrangler NFR after he turned 19. He’s 20 now, and while he’s not in college, he’s learning the game. He was disappointed with his performance at the Thomas and Mack Arena last December after being in just two of 10 rounds. He began to study every run, every detail of his riding skills and looked for the smallest details that would matter. He implemented his practice in the first half of the year, amassed a huge advantage over this year’s WNFR. His mother, Joellen, is a schoolteacher. Her love of learning could have affected Shada’s season. His father Sylvester twice qualified for the WNFR. He has an older sister, Shelby, with whom he won a rope with a ribbon at a rodeo in the final of the national junior high school.
