Grossman was arrested after Tuesday night’s accident and detained on $2 million bail, according to officials of the Los Angeles County sheriff. Two young brothers were killed in the accident: Mark Iskander, 11, and Jacob Iskander, 9.

The children walked with their family at a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday. One of the parents was able to get one of his sons off a scooter and pull a stroller out of the way, but Mark and Jacob were fatally run over.

Nick Sarriedin is a senior on campus and attends the same Coptic Christian church as the victims’ family.

“I found out they were Egyptians. I’m Egyptian, so they’re like a family to me … because not many Egyptian families live in Westlake,” he said.

Mark Iskander started at Oaks Christian just five weeks ago and left a lasting impression.

He was simply the most cheerful and charming young man, ” said Oaks Christian director Garett Freeman. It’s very hard to imagine he’s gone.”

Grossman is co-founder and president of the Grossman Burn Foundation, the wife of the foundation’s president. He has received awards and accolades for his philanthropy around the world.

Investigators say he was under the influence, speeding and took off after the accident. His white Mercedes, which had damage to the front, was towed a quarter mile from the scene of the accident.

According to records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Jail, Grossman was released shortly after midnight. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on October 21.

The city of Westlake Village issued a statement in which it said they share residents’ concerns about unsafe driving in the area, but will not comment further on the matter until the investigation is completed.

West Hills Hospital also issued a statement on behalf of the Grossman Burn Center that read, “Like our entire community, the Grossman Burn Center family at West Hills Hospital is terribly saddened by this tragedy. Our condolences are with all those who have been affected.”
