Lyn Alden Schwartzer: Bio, Wikipedia, Husband, Biography

Lyn Alden Schwartzer is an investor, engineer, and writer who specializes in “financial modeling” and “engineering economics.” Lyn Alden Investment Strategy was founded by her.

Wiki

Alden has a management and engineering background, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Pennsylvania State University (2010) and a Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Rowan University (2015).

Alden has worked at William J. Hughes Technical Center as an Electronics Engineer (June 2009 – April 2015), Lead Electronics Engineer (April 2015 – April 2018), and Technical Lead (April 2018 – present) (WJHTC). As Technical Lead, she oversees the finances and day-to-day operations of a WJHTC aircraft research facility.

Alden established the market and investment research firm Lyn Alden Investment Strategy in December 2016.

Alden has been conducting investment research “in various public and private capacities” for over 15 years.

Early Life

Lyn Alden’s childhood included many instances of poverty:

I was homeless as a child for several years.

While most kids my age were starting elementary school, my mother and I were living in homeless shelters, cheap motels, and, at worst, for a while in a car.

We washed ourselves in public restrooms (sometimes sneaking in early in the morning when no one was around), and whether or not we ate enough was determined by the kindness of strangers. During kindergarten and first grade, I moved around a lot between schools and had some multi-month schooling gaps. I learned to play chess from a homeless man.

My luck eventually improved, and I moved to a trailer park with my elderly father, where I grew up until I left for college at the age of 18. Because he didn’t have much money, I had to rely on $50,000 in student loans and part-time work to pay for it.

That was all bad, but now that I’m 29, my finances are in order.

Alden goes on to say that she has no student debts, a large six-figure investment portfolio, and cash “set aside for liquidity.” Lyn Alden was able to build wealth while supporting her mother thanks to a “great income” from engineering and finance, side hustles, a minimalist lifestyle, and consistent investing.

Alden began investing in stocks at the age of 16 despite having no prior knowledge of the subject. Her experience with poverty and uncertainty about the future pushed her to begin her investment activity.

So I devoured every investment book I could get my hands on. Spreadsheets piqued my interest, and compound returns piqued my interest. Warren Buffett (and, let’s be honest, Batman) were my heroes.

Alden “had it all figured out” by the time she was in college. More precisely:

I knew what the average starting salary for an engineer was, could calculate all of life’s basic expenses and how to keep them low, and calculated that if I saved $2,000 per month in inflation-adjusted dollars and earned a 7% average return on my investments, my money would grow like this over my career:

Alden’s father’s death, however, as well as her own health issues, would cost her thousands of dollars over the next few years. Her mother, too, began to require financial assistance.

I hadn’t factored in all of that in my projections…

So I got off track and had a couple of years where my wealth didn’t grow at all, and even decreased one year. My income remained stagnant as a result of my lack of time and focus, while my expenses increased.

I eventually got it back on track and began increasing my income while decreasing my expenses.
