He went on to become dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Miami. He died on Father’s Day in 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Katie had a close relationship with her father.

Phang co-hosts CNBC’s new show Money Court with Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank and Ada Pozo, a former trial attorney, public defender, and judge. On August 11, 2021, Money Court premiered. In the show, the three of them try to settle financial disputes between family members, with Kevin issuing a final ruling that all parties must follow.

Katie works as a legal contributor for NBC News and MSNBC. She began working for the news channels in January 2017. She previously worked as a partner at Berger Singerman LLP in Miami. She represented various groups of people in complex commercial litigation, marital, and criminal matters while there.

Katie joined Arrastia, Capote & Phang, LLP as a founding partner in March 2012. The firm specialized in commercial litigation, criminal defense, and family law. Phang began her legal career as an associate at Wicker, Smith, O’Hara, McCoy & Ford, P.A. She was also a Division Chief and Assistant State Attorney in the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office.

She has also worked as an attorney for Seipp, Flick & Kissane, LLP, as a managing partner for Mager & Mager, LLC, and as an Assistant State Attorney for the Broward County State Attorney’s Office. Katie practices commercial litigation, hospitality litigation, criminal defense, and special investigations.

Phang also wrote and edited the 10th edition of “Florida Practitioner’s Guide: Civil Trial Preparation” and is an Adjunct Professor of Litigation Skills at the University of Miami.
