Who is Garry Reid?
Garry Reid is currently the Director for Defense Intelligence (Intelligence and Security) (DDI (I&S)), directly reporting to the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USD(I)).
He is responsible for developing and implementing policies and resources to support HUMINT, counterintelligence, security, sensitive activities, intelligence analysis, intelligence sharing, and partner engagement programs.
Mr. Reid oversees the activities of DoD intelligence and related elements on behalf of the USD(I), coordinates these activities within the US intelligence community and interagency, and provides regular reporting to Congress on these activities.
Mr. Reid previously served as a Special Assistant for Mission Integration, advising the USD(I) on warfighter support, intelligence and security, technical collection and special programs, and intelligence strategy, programs, and resources.
Prior to joining the USD(I), Mr. Reid worked for the Under Secretary for Policy (USD(P)) for nine years, culminating as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict.
He served as the ASD(SO/LICprimary )’s advisor on DoD policies, plans, authorities, and resources pertaining to special operations, low-intensity conflict, and other activities specified by the Secretary of Defense.
He served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Counterterrorism from April 2009 to June 2012.
He advised the ASD (SOLIC/IC), the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, and the Secretary of Defense on Department of Defense special operations and irregular warfare policies, plans, authorities, and resources, with a particular emphasis on counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, unconventional warfare, sensitive special operations, and information operations.
Additionally, he served as the Office of the ASD’s principal counterterrorism crisis manager (SOLIC/IC).
Mr. Reid joined the Department of Defense’s Office of the Secretary of Defense in January 2007 after 28 years in the military, including 28 years in Special Operations.
He has served as the Director for Special Operations Policy, the Director for Counterterrorism Policy, and the Principal Director for Special Operations Capabilities as a career member of the Senior Executive Service.
In these capacities, he advised and assisted the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy in overseeing the Department of Defense’s special operations and irregular warfare activities.
