She also worked as a special assistant U.S. attorney. Since leaving the public service, Ms. Cordero has been director of national security research at Georgetown Law and has engaged in private practice in matters related to surveillance, law enforcement response, security and privacy. She received her doctorate with honors from Washington College of Law at American University and a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Barnard College, Columbia University.

She also worked as a special assistant U.S. attorney. Since leaving the public service, Ms. Cordero has been director of national security research at Georgetown Law and has engaged in private practice in matters related to surveillance, law enforcement response, security and privacy. She testified before the U.S. Congress about surveillance reform and foreign influence on democratic institutions.

Professor Cordero previously held various national security-related positions at the Justice Department from 2000 to 2010, including as an adviser to the assistant attorney general for national security. She advised on the National Security Act, the U.S. Patriot Act and other relevant laws and regulations.

Prior to that, she also served as Senior Associate General Counsel in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), an adviser to the attorney general in the former Office of Intelligence Policy and Control at the Justice Department, and as a special assistant assistant to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

She has appeared in many media outlets including NPR, USA Today, Reuters, the Washington Post, the Tampa Tribune and the New York Post.
