The 33-year-old’s career began after he retired from the Army in 2010 and began training as an amateur while studying at Sacramento City College.

McKernan served three-and-a-half years as a machine gunner in the infantry, including a one-year term in Iraq.

He said that his upbringing and career in the army helped him to become a boxer, which he is today.

McKernan told The Sacramento Bee: “To be a great fighter, you need a lot of aggression or pain.

“It has always allowed me to succeed in this industry.

“I learned a lot as a child, a teenager and an adult, even as a military man, which allowed me to reach a new level in the ring.”

McKernan moved to a paid job after six years in the amateur business and while working for a mortgage company.

He won his debut by knockout and recorded five more in four years.

But throughout his career in the U.S. domestic arena, he was virtually un tested.

That will change when he shares the ring with Jack, who held the super middleweight and light heavyweight titles and signed Floyd Mayweather.

But he claimed: “Badu Jack has never come across or even shared a ring with a man of such calibre as himself.”

The Swedish veteran laughed off McKernan’s comment and said he was not worthy of a place on Tyson’s undercard.

Jack, 37, said: “This guy is a club level fighter. We gave this guy an opportunity, he doesn’t deserve to be on this stage.

“He has to show a little respect.”

McKernan, who refused to intimidate Jack, understands that he is a loser, but warned that he will not feel pressure due to the big event.

He explained: “It’s not that I can win, I know I’m going to win.

“I don’t mean to say it sounds arrogant, but some people either bend under pressure or stick to the line and go on about it.”

And while it’s going to be McKernan’s biggest night to date, for Jack it’s just another workday at the office.

He plans to use the fight as a way to prepare for a rematch against Jean Pascal next year and donate materials to his Bad Jack Foundation.

Jack told SunSport: ‘He’s a guy who talks a lot.

I’m in great shape, I’ve got a new coach, Jonathan Banks, and we’re working on a lot of adjustments, making more kicks, etc.

“I’m going to go out there to hurt this guy.

“I’d rather fight Pascal right now, but he doesn’t want it, and it’s a big event, especially for my charity.”

Despite the cheeky image, McKernan seemed keen to prove himself, his coach insisted he was a ‘man of the people’ who was just enjoying the big event.

Marcus Reeves said: “I think he can go all the way. We just need to build a lot more.”

‘I think some people think he’s cheeky, but Blake is cool and practical.

“He is a man of people. He likes to be the center of attention.”

Blake McKernan’s Story: The Iraqi Veteran Army is Now an Invincible Boxer

Blake McKernan is a former army machine gunner and Iraqi veteran turned Cruiser-Class invincibility. And he faces the toughest test in his 13 career bouts this Saturday evening, taking on former second-class champion Badou Jack.

McKernan takes on Badou Jack in an extra match for Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. Tyson for McKernan is a special figure. He named his son Tyson and first inspired him to boxing.

The 33-year-old boxer began his journey after leaving the military in 2010 and began training as an amateur while attending Sacramento City College. McKernan spent three and a half years as a machine gunner in the infantry, including one year serving in Iraq.

He reveals his forging and career in the military helped him become the boxer he is today. McKernan told The Sacramento Bee: ” To be a great fighter, you have to have a lot of aggression or pain. It’s always been something that makes me excel in this industry. ”

“I have a lot built up from childhood, adolescence and adulthood, even from the military, that allow me to push myself to a different level in the ring.”

McKernan moved on to the professional after six years in amateurs, and while working for a mortgage company. He won his debut by knockout and has recorded another five wins over four years. But he was largely untested during his run on the domestic United States scene.

That all changes when he fights with Jack, who holds the titles of super middleweight and light heavyweight and is signed by Floyd Mayweather. But he claims: “Badou Jack has never faced or even shared the ring with a man of his caliber.”

The Swedish veteran found humor in McKernan’s comments and blasted that he didn’t deserve a place on Tyson’s stoppage card. Jack, 37, said: “This guy is a club level fighter. We’re giving this guy a chance, he doesn’t deserve to be on this stage.”

“He has to show a little respect.”

McKernan – who refuses to be intimidated by Jack – understands he is an underdog but warns he won’t feel any pressure at big events. He explained: “ It’s not that I can win, I know I will. ”

“I don’t want to say it sounds arrogant, but certain people give in under pressure, or follow the line and rise up for the opportunity.”

And while it will prove to be McKernan’s biggest night to date, for Jack it’s just another day at the office. He plans to use the fight as a way of preparing for next year’s rematch against Jean Pascal, and donates the process to his ‘Badou Jack Foundation’.

“I’m in great shape, I’ve got a new coach, Jonathan Banks, and we’re working on a lot of adjustments, doing more strokes, etc.

“I’m going there to hurt this guy. I’d rather go straight against Pascal, but he doesn’t want it, and it’s a big event, especially for my charity.”

Despite McKernan’s insolent persona looking to show off, his coach insisted that he was a ‘sociable person’ who simply enjoyed big events. Marcus Reaves said: “ I think he can go a long way. We still have a lot more building to do. “

“I think some people think he’s cocky, but Blake is cool, humble. He’s a very sociable person. She likes being in the spotlight. “
