Who is Ashley Etienne? Ashley Danielle Etienne, the senior adviser for strategic planning for the Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign, is a political advisor and communications specialist. Starting from January 20, 2021, she will serve as Vice President Kamala Harris’ communications director. She has previously served as the communications director and senior advisor to Nancy Pelosi, as well as the special assistant to Barack Obama.

Ashley Etienne was born in 1978 (she is 42 years old as in 2020) in Texas, to Avys Etienne Poe and John A. Foreman.
Etienne attended Sam Houston State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2000. She later obtained a master’s degree in political communications from John Hopkins University.
Etienne has been working in political communications since 2001. For two years, beginning in 2001, she worked as communications director for Ken Bentsen, a Texas state legislature. From 2001 to 2013, she was communications director of the U.S. House Oversight and Reform Committee, working closely with Elijah Cummings. In 2004, she was Chris Bell’s communications director, followed by a stint on the Democratic National Committee as deputy director of the southern region. Etienne worked for Al Green from 2006 to 2008 as communications director. She worked briefly for Dewey Square Group in 2008 before joining Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign as a spokesperson. She also ran her own communications company briefly in 2009. In 2013, she became Nancy Pelosi’s deputy communications director with a focus on novice congressmen and their messages.
After Obama won the election, she served as communications director for Obama’s office and Obama’s special assistant. After Trump won the election, she made plans to move to the West Coast.
Nancy Pelosi offered Etienne a job as communications director and senior consultant. Etienne discussed the opportunity with Cummings, who told her that she should return to Washington and take office. After acceptance, Etienne became the first woman and the first black person to hold the position. During her tenure, she oversaw Democratic messages for the impeachment of Donald Trump.
Marriage & husband
In March 2015 Etienne got married with Nigel Stephens. The marriage was held at Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C.
