Edi Rama was born in Tirana, July 4, 1964. He is married to Mrs Linda Rama and they have two children, Greg and Rea.

With a remarkably rich and diverse career path, Edi Rama counts his contribution to art, sports and education as a publicist and politician. He was professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, a player of the national basketball team, and wrote two books,

In 2000, Edi Rama ran to the mayor of tirana municipality with the support of the Socialist Party and marked an overwhelming victory against his rival. After the takeover, he launched a campaign to transform and regenerate the capital by restoring public spaces that had hitherto been occupied by illegal buildings and enlarging the green areas, while creating a new spirit and vision in the governance of the Capital. Under the leadership of Edi Rama, the municipality of Tirana turned into a modern European institution.

His projects to introduce colour in public spaces, between the destroyed facades of Communist-era residential buildings, the restoration of the Lana riverbed, the increase in recreational parks and
green areas in the city, as well as the reconstruction of Tirana’s road network based on entirely new standards that received international recognition, including a range of awards, including the World Mayor Award (2004) and the European Hero Award by Time Magazine.
